oh yeah this exists

date: apr 21st-22nd, 2026

forgot about this site for a good few weeks. i went back to just yapping privately in my journal & occasionally posting on tumblr because at least people will notice my brain dumps there (and by "people" i mean like 4 of them). i stopped bothering to actively update this once the initial high of novelty wore off & i was pretty much satisfied with the way it looks. nobody's ever finding my shit here anyway so why bother?

anyways, i thought i'd revive this website to announce a new project of mine. normally i'd keep it to myself but i figured i should get it out somewhere, but i also don't want to post on tumblr for... some reason.

i'm making subtitles for the oceanic cup grand finals showmatch. not because anyone asked me to or anything, i just thought it'd be fun.

the other day, a couple hours after the tournament concluded, i decided to download the first half of the grand finals vod, which was a showmatch between mrekk and maliszewski. if you know anything about me, you know that i love the rivalry between these two and their interactions. i have a whole side blog dedicated to them for... reasons.

i wanted a youtube upload of the match but i knew it would take a while for mrekk and/or his editor(s) to make one (hell, they don't even have vods of the semifinals matches...) so i figured i'd upload the file onto my own channel. i already had a couple other twitch vods up but they're unlisted, just there for archival purposes. this one is public because i know there'd be people who want a youtube reupload too.

one day, as i was going through the youtube studio page, i found out you can edit the auto-generated subtitles, which weren't even present on the video. initially i had the idea of remaking the subtitles using the built-in editor but after like 15 minutes i had to switch to aegisub because it was a laggy piece of dogshit.

so i installed both the official version & arch1t3cht's fork and got to work. on my first pass i just fixed all the names & terms youtube got wrong because auto-captions can somehow pick up on names like wubwoofwolf and cookiezi and rrtyui but will butcher the names of any osu player who became relevant after 2016. also it only got "1v1" correctly once.

right now i'm supposed to be on my second pass where i assign commentator lines and add punctuation and remove (most) stutters from the captions, but i've already run into a part where commentators are speaking over each other. i'll figure out how to deal with that tomorrow, or i guess later today because this blog post has already bled into april 22nd midnight.

yes, my sleep schedule is ruined again. i'm starting to think that bringing attention to this over and over is making it harder for me to actually go to sleep on time. maybe the solution isn't to stay up 30 hours until i pass out. maybe it's better if i just forced myself to turn off the lights and go to sleep regardless of how tired i actually feel. who's to say really
